Got a freaking good deal too. Time to set it up, and finally get the “new” turntable set up now that there’ll be room.

Who makes your turntable? What will be the first spin?

It’s a 1970-something Pioneer, picked it up a few weeks ago. I’m not sure yet, torn between Tame Impala and Leon Bridges

Thorens! I don't know enough about turntables, but I know my dad bought the best he could find in 1978 or so, and it was Thorens

I prefer my audio components German or British. It’s nearly a mid range one from them in the early 80s I believe. Most of my components have been hand me downs from family friends.

Is your table belt or direct drive?

Cool! Mine is belt drive, but it’s main purpose is to serve as a first foray into the land of changeable needles/cartridges. We’ve been running my girlfriends Audio-Technica with an integrated needle and cartridge. The guy at the vintage shop we got the Pioneer from recommended an Ortofon Red, so that’s next on the list of audio related purchases.

Are you planning to hot swap cartridges depending on genre? From what I’ve read people are generally happy with Ortofon’s offerings. The biggest thing to remember is, what people say is the best or the right choice doesn’t matter since it’ll be your ears enjoying the tunes.

Not yet, we’ll see if I get that involved. Yeah that’s a good thing to remember. I mainly want to hear as much as I can on my system as it is. Right now the weakest link is the sound quality getting to the speakers, either from compressed digital files, or a not good enough turntable
